FAQ - The combination of all our tips to avoid cuts and achieve the best possible shave

Using a safety razor is an experience that combines precision and control (it might sound scary said like that but not really haha). Here are some tips to avoid cuts and enjoy a smooth shave:

  1. Skin Preparation: Make sure your skin is well hydrated before starting. Good preparation can include a hot bath or shower to soften the hairs and open the pores + exfoliation.

  2. Use of Appropriate Shaving Products: Always use quality shaving products, like the Solid Shaving Soap - Sesame Citrus, to create a protective barrier between the blade and your skin.

  3. Correct Shaving Technique:

    • Correct Angle: Maintain a 30° angle between the razor and your skin. An incorrect angle can cause cuts.

    • No Excessive Pressure: Do not press too hard. Let the weight of the razor do the work.

    • Short and Controlled Movements: Use short and controlled movements, especially around curves and body contours.

  4. Knowing the Direction of Hair Growth:

    • Identifying the Direction of Growth: Before starting, identify the direction of hair growth in the area you plan to shave. This can vary from person to person and from one body area to another.

    • First Pass:

      • Legs: For legs, it is often recommended to shave from bottom to top (against the direction of hair growth) to get a cleaner and closer shave – but you can try the other way, though it might be less comfortable.

      • Armpits and Bikini: For armpits and the bikini area, start by shaving from top to bottom (in the direction of hair growth) to minimize irritation.

    • Second Pass (if necessary): If you want an even closer shave, you can do a second pass against the direction of hair growth. Be aware that this technique can increase the risk of irritation and ingrown hairs, so proceed with caution and use quality shaving products to protect your skin.

  5. Regular Blade Changes: Change blades regularly to avoid using a dull blade, which increases the risk of cuts (generally 5 to 10 uses per blade side – but depending on your use and associated products it can be less. Trust your shaving feel.)

  6. Use of Soothing Products After Shaving: Apply a soothing product, like the Dry Oil - After Shave or our whipped balm (not yet available), after shaving to calm the skin and prevent irritation.

  7. Training and Practice: If you are new to using safety razors, take the time to get familiar with the technique. Practice makes perfect shaving.

Choosing the Right Time to Shave

It is best not to shave immediately after waking up, as the skin may be slightly swollen, making shaving less precise. Also, avoid shaving if you are in a hurry to prevent cuts and irritation caused by rushing.

Shaving Frequency

It is recommended to wait a few days between shaves. Shaving every day can remove the top layer of skin, which can cause irritation and redness. Adjust your shaving frequency to your skin’s sensitivity to maintain healthy skin.

However, with the right products and if you feel the need, you can do it. Some of our customers shave almost every day without any problem, it depends on you!

Razor Maintenance

To ensure the longevity of your razor and prevent skin problems, it is essential to properly maintain your razor. Here are some tips:

  • Regular Cleaning: Clean your razor regularly to remove hair and shaving product residues.

  • Drying: After each use, dry the razor carefully.

  • Storage: Store the razor in a dry and airy place (if you shave rarely).
